– John Mikel Obi could be on his way to Manchester United after Chelsea boss Anthonio Conte has refused to play him
– Jose Mourinho is reportedly preparing a shock-move for the Super Eagles captain to Old Trafford
– Recall that Mikel was at the centre of controversies between Manchester United an Chelsea in 2006
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly making moves to re-kindle with his former player at Chelsea Mikel Obi.
The ‘Special One’ is reportedly preparing a shock-move for the Super Eagles captain to Old Trafford.
The 29-year-old player has not been favoured under new Chelsea boss Antonio Conte having failed to appear in any match for the ‘Blues’ this season and there are reports that the Italian manager has no plans to renew his contract.
Mourinho is ready to take advantage with a price-cut for the same player United claimed to have signed 10 years ago before Chelsea took advantage.
Recall that Mikel at the age of 19 was announced on United’s website that he had signed for the club from Lyn Oslo on a four-year contract.
The £4million transfer was done directly with the player and his club — bypassing his agents and he was even pictured in a United shirt.
Chelsea later showed documents that they already had agreements with the player and things went so rough that the player was alleged to be threatened to the extent of him seeking refuge at a hotel.
Mikel further went amiss from Norweigian club Lyn amid stories he had been kidnapped.
The midfielder later revealed to Sports TV he was pressurized into signing for United, something they denied, and he wanted to join the Blues.
Chelsea had to pay Manchester United £12m and Lyn £4m for the matter to be resolved.
It is now imperative for Mourinho’s side to get a very formidable defensive midfield role in front of the back four that will give room for £89m Paul Pogba freedom to roam.
