– Jose Mourinho has lamented he could miss Chris Smalling and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for Chelsea tie
– The Portuguese coach is hoping to the duo recover in time ahead of their trip to Stamford Bridge
– Mourinho will be making a return to his former club as an opposite number to face Conte’s side
Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho has revealed defender Chris Smalling might not recover in time to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The England international was withdrawn at half-time during their Europa League c***h with Fenerbache on Thursday, October 20 and the Portuguese manager is hoping he recovers ahead of the match against the Blues.
“He was not okay. He had a bad muscular feeling and because the result was good we made the decision to change it but hopefully he will recover,” Mourinho told United’s official site when asked about Smalling’s substitution at half-time.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan is also a doubt for the c***h against Antonio Conte’s side on Sunday, October 23, after he was omitted from the squad that faced the Turkish club.
The Armenian captain was deemed fit ahead of United’s c***h against Liverpool and also missed out in their Europa Legaue match.
“The situation is that we played with Lingard, with Mata and Martial. I am not an Einstein, I don’t know a tactical system to play with four wingers at the same time. He has to work more to get the intensity and the real fitness to play at the high level,” Mourinho said when asked about Mkhitaryan’s continued absence, as quoted on United’s official site.
Mourinho will be making a return to the London club he once loved to battle his opposite number Conte for the first time at Stamford Bridge in a Premier League match.
